The Gibeonite Deception
After seeing Israel’s victory over Jericho, the Gibeonites feared for their lives, and devised a plan to trick the Israelite leaders into making a treaty. Even though they had been deceived, Israel's leaders remained faithful to this treaty because their oath had been sworn in the presence of the Lord. The book of Joshua reveals that though the world is full of deception and wickedness, God's plan and purpose for our lives cannot be thwarted. We can trust that God will keep his promise to work all things—even evil things—together for our good and his glory.
