How to Stay Loyal to Jesus in a Skeptical World

Morning Service
May 6, 2018

The compelling thrust of Psalm 137 sets before the reader a choice between two cities: Zion or Babylon. Biblically, the symbolic use of Zion represents the covenant of old—God’s promise to His people—that finds its ultimate fulfillment in Christ. Opposingly, Babylon represents the world, in all of its sin and hostility toward God, God’s Christ, and God’s people. The awareness that, in the Spirit of God, Christ would have sung the psalm as a promise of His loyalty to the Father issues a poignant challenge to every believer: will we choose to persist in doing the will of Christ, or will we cast our citizenship with Babylon, a city with no future?
