S.A.F.E. Afterschool Enrichment Program Tutors Needed

Aferschool tutors are needed for the 2024-2025 school year to assist under resourced 2nd and 3rd grade students in Twinsburg and Twinsburg Heights. In addition to paid positions, volunteers are also needed. For more information, contact Serena Harkless

Location: The Edge Sports & Arts Academy

Days/Hours: Monday-Thursday – 3:15-6:00 pm

THE ORGANIZATION

The Edge is a 501c3, non-profit “Business as Ministry” of Destiny Church of the Christian & Missionary Alliance. We operate a 54,000 square feet facility that offers programs in sports and the arts, as well as partnering with organizations ranging from recreational groups to professional teams for rental space and events. The facility also serves as the home of Destiny Church where we carry out worship services and ministry activities.

Our mission is to give every man, woman and child in our region repeated opportunities to see, hear and respond to the gospel of Jesus Christ. Our vision is to help youth cultivate their character and contribute to the world. Our strategy is to intersect culture by redeeming secular space. We do this using the platforms of sports and the arts, along with church ministries.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

S.A.F.E. (Sports, Advocacy, Faith, and Education) is an afterschool program currently targeting students in the 2nd and 3rd grade that is focused on providing quality afterschool services to under resourced children and families of Twinsburg and Twinsburg Heights.

SCOPE OF WORK

• Help maintain an after-school program that contributes towards the organization’s mission of “Helping youth cultivate their character and contribute to the world.”

• Contribute towards creating a space for 2nd and 3rd grade students to gather and experience healthy forms of care, belonging, and encouragement from peers and caring adult role models.

• Provide excellent educational enrichment services and experiences that allow each student to grow educationally.

• Help students understand and complete homework assignments.

• Work with students to be at a grade level understanding in math and reading.

• Lead recreational activities (games, sports, etc.).

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

Program Prep:

• Meet as a team before the program when possible.

• Help Coordinator lead set up for the program when needed.

• Gather necessary materials for your assigned table or specific activity.

During Program:

• Welcome students as they arrive.

• Seek to build healthy relationships with all students.

• Speak and act with gentleness and respect at all times.

• Help students with unfinished homework to the best of your ability.

• Check and help correct already finished homework when possible.

• Tutor students in the areas they hope to grow educationally.

• Read to students and help the students to read to you.

• Help students engage with approved games and activities.

• Lead additional group activities and educational enrichment activities and games.

• Maintain cleanliness and organization of program areas.

• Enforce program rules at all times.

• If you have a question, always ask your program director.

After Program:

• Help clean up and tear down when necessary.

• Bring up any questions or concerns to the program director.

QUALIFICATIONS

Skills:

• Can understand and be able to teach the following Math subjects: fractions, decimals, multiplication and division, multiplication strategies (array, groups, repeated addition), measuring (length, weight, and capacities), bar graphs, line graphs, line plots, telling time, classifying shapes, determining area and perimeter, reading and interpreting word problems, math storytelling, estimation, and mental math strategies.

• Can understand and be able to teach the following Reading subjects: Phonics, expanding vocabulary through context and discussions, comprehensions strategies (predicting, summarizing, making connections, asking questions), Fluency, Reading Comprehension (literal and inferential questions), determining main idea, details, and sequence in a story, Text Structures, Context Clues, Story Elements, Critical Thinking Skills.

Character:

• Love for children and a desire to see them grow, overcome obstacles, and empower them to reach their own goals.
